Sky View grapplers edge Logan, 34-33, for big Senior Night win

SMITHFIELD— It was Senior Night at Sky View, and the Bobcats celebrated in a big way, as they held on for a 34-33 win over valley-rival Logan after falling to the Grizzlies two times previously this season.

The match came down to the final pair as Sky View’s Anthony Munoz and the Grizzlies’ Logan Harrison battled it out for the win. With the Bobcats leading, Harrison needed either a pin or a win by major decision to put Logan on top.

Needing at least an eight-point victory, Harrison jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first round. Munoz battled back though, and had his best meeting of the season with Harrison as he earned two reversal points in the third round. Munoz lost his match 7-2, but his effort allowed the Grizzlies to pick up only three points – ensuring a Sky View victory.

Indicative of the final score, the match was close throughout with each team recording pins, and multiple close matches.

For the Bobcats, Hayden Humphreys (138), Robert Humphreys (195), and Eric Hansen (120) each recorded pins. Logan had four pins, with Trenton Archuleta (106, Taylor Archuleta (113), Andrew Nielsen (220), and Jacoby Wildman (285) picking up wins.

In the closer matches, Quinton Lopez (152) from Sky View defeated Logan’s Kyle Weekes, 7-6, to pick up three points. Israel Herrera (126) from Sky View also picked up a close win with a 6-4 decision over Talon Teeples. For the Grizzlies, Hunter Ballam (160) squeaked past SV’s Gary Hansen with a 4-3 decision.

There was one forfeit on the night that went in favor of Sky View, as the Bobcats picked up six points at the 170 pound weight class.

Next up for Sky View is a pair of away matches as the Bobcats travel to Box Elder and Bonneville, next Wednesday and Thursday. Logan, will finish off its regular season with a dual at Box Elder on Thursday, and then both teams will prepare for the Region 5 tournament, which will be Feb. 6-7 at Box Elder.
