Poor third quarter dooms Lady Grizz in 53-49 loss to Timpview

SALT LAKE CITY— The Logan girl’s basketball team put together a nice comeback effort in the fourth quarter after leading at the half, but a 20-9 scoring deficit in the third quarter doomed the Grizzlies as they fell to Timpview, 53-49, in the first round of the 4A State Basketball Tournament.

The three stars that have carried Logan all year each scored in double figures, led by Lauren Mott’s 17 points, but it wasn’t quite enough for the Grizzlies. The T-Birds only had one player reach double figures, but their balanced scoring attack won the game as they pushed past Logan.

The Lady Grizz trailed 14-13 after the first quarter of action, but held Timpview to only seven points in the second quarter, and carried a 23-21 lead into the half. Lacy Haddock took over for the T-Birds in the second half though, as she helped Timpview build a nine point lead heading into the final quarter. Haddock finished the game with 13 points, most of which came in the final two quarters.

Along with Mott, Logan’s Megan Mills and Catherine Mount, 16 and 12 points, respectively, helped the Grizzlies battle back in the fourth quarter. However, the deficit was too large for Logan to overcome as they became the second Cache Valley team to falter in the first round Tuesday.

With the loss, the Grizzlies drop to an even 11-11 on the season. Logan finished with a 4-6 Region 5 record, which was good enough for third place.
