Dense fog contributes to Saturday morning traffic accident

Dense fog was a contributing factor in a Saturday morning traffic accident at 2500 North Main. According to North Park Police, a woman was driving too quickly through the fog when she came upon the intersection and saw that the lights were red at approximately 8:20 a.m.

By the time she stopped her vehicle she was already into the intersection. North Park Police Officer Roger Jardine says the driver stopped quickly but a vehicle rear-ended her. The other car was traveling close behind and was unable to stop in time.

Both drivers received citations. Officer Jardine described the accident as low impact and there were no injuries reported.

“There were single occupants in each vehicle, both female. Medical was called out but the drivers were released on scene,” Jardine says.

The accident did, however, significantly slow northbound and southbound traffic for approximately 45 minutes Saturday morning as crews cleaned up the accident and completed their investigation. Other drivers in the area noted that visibility was reduced to only about 10 feet.
