Author: Obama ushering in era of liberalism, but also era of crisis

Author and scholar Dr. Charles Kesler spoke at Utah State University Friday and also appeared on KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday. Kesler’s new book is entitled I Am The Change: Barack Obama and the Crisis of Liberalism. Kesler said just as Ronald Reagan ushered in an era of conservatism, so has Obama with Liberalism.

Kesler said there is actually a crisis before Obama right now.

“It’s a two-pronged crisis,” Kesler said. “One is fiscal; that is Liberalism has been about taking needs and turning them into wants and turning wants into rights. They simply can’t pay for them all.

“The welfare state is running out of money. It’s Mrs. Thatcher’s great line: ‘The problem with Socialism is eventually you run out of other people’s money.'”

He says it’s a strange situation when you want to have big government, and want it even bigger, but then find that you can’t afford it.
