Roy blanks Logan, MC falls in OT on the pitch

HYRUM— Coming off a long spring break layover, the Mountain Crest boy’s soccer team wasn’t able to end its losing streak as the Mustangs fell in overtime to Bonneville to drop their third straight match, and fall to 0-2 in Region 5 action.

After a scoreless first period, each team added a goal in the second period as Andy Cordova put Mountain Crest on the board, while Chandler Baddley scored for the Lakers. With a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, the match headed to overtime. Baddley was the hero once again for Bonneville, as he scored the golden goal in the extra period.

With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 3-3-1 on the season. MC will look to get back on the winning track Friday when they host Box Elder at 3:30 p.m. The Bees battled Sky View to a 1-1 draw Tuesday afternoon in Smithfield.

ROYALS 2, GRIZZLIES 0

Playing in less than ideal spring conditions in Cache Valley didn’t appear to bother Region 5 leader Roy, as the Royals handed Logan a 2-0 loss on its home field Tuesday afternoon. The loss was the second in a row for the Grizzlies who have had an up and down season thus far.

Roy’s Noah Jorgensen found the net in the first period, while Alec Vanderkooi added another goal in the second period. Kaden Brinkerhoff picked up the shutout for the Royals who improve to 5-2-0 on the season.

Logan (3-5-0) will try to keep its losing streak from growing to three games, when the Grizzlies travel to Bonneville Friday to take on the Lakers at 3:30 p.m.
