Region 5 soccer announces All-Region teams

The All Region 5 teams were announced Thursday, with 18 players comprising the All Region 5 forward, midfield and defensive teams.

A panel made of of the six coaches in the region nominated and then voted on the selections, with Sky View’s Kelly Knowles garnering Region 5 coach of the year.

Knowles was selected as Region 5 coach of the year after leading Sky View to a 2-7-1 region record after going winless in region play last season.

Logan and Roy lead all teams with five players from each school being selected. Mountain Crest had three players selected, and Sky View had two named.




After a second place finish in the region with a 7-2-1 record, Logan was represented on each of the squads. Junior Jose Beto Rincon and senior McCade Yates were selelcted to the All Region 5 forward team, while senior Kayde Marquez was selected to the midfield squad.

On the defensive side of the field, senior Juan Carlos Estrada was selected, with senior Sean Lyne being one of two goalkeepers named.

Mountain Crest

The Mustangs were the only team to defeat region champion Roy in league play this season, led by midfielder Josh Worley. The senior garnered All Region 5 midfield honors after recording a team-high four gaols this season.

Fellow seniors Sean Johnson and Blake Bolen were selected to the defensive team after the Mustangs backfield allowed 12 goals in 10 league matches this season.

Sky View

Senior Jayson Duffin was named to the all midfield team after netting a team-high seven goals this season, and <span>Cory Fowers was named to defensive team after helping the Bobcats to five shutouts in 16 games this season.</span>
