OGDEN – Beginning the week of June 3 and continuing through early fall 2013, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists that it will begin a concrete rehabilitation project on I-15 in northern Box Elder County.
The work will take place on a 15-mile stretch of freeway, in both northbound and southbound lanes, between Riverside (SR-30) and the Idaho state line. UDOT will use a dowel bar retrofit process for this project, which includes the installation of epoxy coated steel rods between concrete pavement joints and pavement grinding. The process improves roadway surface stabilization by transferring vehicle loads from one concrete panel to the next. It will also extend the life of the current pavement by helping the roadway withstand potential cracking at joints.
Motorists can expect single-lane restrictions in each direction around the clock, as well as wide load restrictions as the project moves along the corridor. Periodic lane restrictions on interchange ramps are also planned. Traffic congestion should be minimal but may occur from time to time, so motorists with time-sensitive travel should consider alternate routes in their travel planning.
