After dropping its first game of the season, the Smithfield Blue Sox bounced back in a big way with an 11-10 walkoff win over Idaho Falls on Tuesday.
The Blue Sox scored in five consecutive innings to take a seemingly insurmountable 10-5 lead, but an eighth inning rally knotted the game at 10 before Smithfield was able to win it in the bottom of the ninth.
Brennan Reese paced the Blue Sox with three hits and two RBI’s, while Mitch Berryhill picked up the win for Smithfield after going six innings on the mound.
Errors plagued both sides as the teams combined for eight errors, and each side gave up at least two extra-base hits – including a home run for each squad.
Smithfield improved to 6-1 this season, with the one loss coming in the Blue Sox Northern Utah League opener – the only league game thusfar this season – against Logan on Saturday.
