Preston celebrating pioneer and Oneida Stake Academy heritage on July 24

July 24th is Pioneer Day in Utah but over the border in Preston, Idaho the 24th day of July is Heritage Day and it is hosted by the Oneida Stake Academy Foundation. On KVNU’s Crosstalk program Friday, founding member Necia Seamons said all the proceeds will go toward efforts to restore the 120-plus year old building, a project which is now about 50 percent complete.

“The last class that I know of that was held in that building was in 2002,” Seamons explained. “So after 112 years of students going through, one way or another, they have gone out into the word in many different places.”

She says that includes two former presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Harold B. Lee and Ezra Taft Benson. Benson was also U.S. Secretary of Agriculre in the Dwight D. Eisenhower administration.

Besides celebrating the Academy, the event will also celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Franklin County. Seamons said Heritage Days will start at 1 p.m. at Benson Park in Preston and will be filled with a lot of old fashioned games, such as marble and jacks tournaments.
