Blue Sox hang on late to beat Royals

LOGAN – In a defensive struggle, the Smithfield Blue Sox never trailed in a 3-2 win over the Logan Royals on Tuesday at Worthington Park.

Smithfield’s Brian Stevenson out-dueled Logan’s Jaren Tyler to earn the win for the Blue Sox, tossing a complete game 2-hitter. Tyler also went the distance, but gave up three runs on four hits to take the loss.

Brandt Reese drove in all three runs for Smithfield and finished 2-for-4 including a double.

The Blue Sox improved to 20-8 overall this season, including 11-7 in Northern Utah League play. Logan fell to 13-5 with the loss.

Both teams return to the field on Thursday, as the Blue Sox face Hyrum on the road and the Royals take on Providence. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
