WELLSVILLE – A father and his two sons were lifted off a mountain in the Wellsville Mountain range after getting stranded and lost. At approximately 12:30 p.m., Cache County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to find the lost hiker and his 9 year-old and 5 year-old sons who got lost after camping over night on the mountain.

According to a Cache County Sheriff’s Office press release, on their way back down the mountain the father and two sons got off the trail and became lost and stranded. The group had water with them, but their supply ran out by early afternoon.

Search and Rescue crews were able to make contact with the stranded hikers but it took the efforts of a helicopter to get the hikers off the mountain. A LifeFlight helicopter crew arrived on scene and used a hoist to lower a paramedic to a bluff near where the stranded hikers were located.

One-by-one, starting with the 5-year-old, the hikers were transported off the mountain and to Willow Valley Middle School just before 6 p.m. The hikers were dehydrated but otherwise in good health.
