Golf tournament raises funds for local schools

People have a chance to golf for their students’ school on Tuesday. A charity golf tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6 at Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield and the proceeds will go directly to benefit students and classrooms in the Cache County School District.

The <a href=”http://www.cefut.org/index.php” target=”_blank”>Cache Education Foundation</a> is hosting the golf tournament and <a href=”http://610kvnu.com/assets/podcaster/328/2013_08_03_328_13118_2867.mp3″ target=”_blank”>Executive Director Teri Lewis says</a> 100 percent of the money raised will go to grants for teachers.

“Grants that we offer, they have to be non-consumable products to help enhance education. Most of the items that the teachers will request are manipulatives that will help the students learn, math manipulatives, books, science equipment.

“Some teachers go above and beyond and will use the funds along with their own money and purchase an iPad.”

Lewis says there is room for a few more foursomes or for businesses to sponsor a hole. She says the tournament will include breakfast, lunch and prizes. For more information call 755-2022.
