Four candidates are running for mayor in Hyrum’s primary election on August 13 and three of those candidates debated on KVNU’s Crosstalk show Monday – Pat Hansen, Stephanie Miller and Cody Hugie. Bryan Larsen did not attend.
Asked what vision she had for the future of Hyrum, Hansen said she’d like Main Street re-vitalized. She said while she was growing up there were grocery stores and other businesses downtown and she’d like to see that again.
“I think we need to invite into our community light, clean industry so that the people that live there have an opportunity to work there also,” Hansen said. “And perhaps have more of a retail center; I think the downtown area can be re-vitalized. I love the little historic cabins they have there and the museum and the library. But I think we can do more as a community to invite those kinds of industries into our town.”
Hugie said some people say they get a brush-off when they go to council meetings. Miller said she’d like to see a special place on the agenda for those who want to comment.
