Grizzlies out-duel Knights to win football opener

It was a back-and-forth affair but the Logan High football team got it done and came away with a 41-38 victory over Northridge on Friday.

Senior quarterback Chase Nelson accounted for all five of Logan’s touchdowns, connecting on four through the air and running for another as the Grizzlies rallied to take the lead late and held on for the win as the Knights missed a potential game-tying field goal as time expired.

Nelson finished with 368 yards passing – and added 74 yards on the ground – and teamed up with wide receiver Chad Artist for 131 yards.

Wide receiver Harmon Rector hauled in two of those touchdown catches, his second proving to be the game winner on a 23-yard catch with 36 seconds left.

The teams combined for 35 fourth quarter points, and the Knights special teams failed on three 2-point conversion attempts and a botched PAT.

The Grizzlies improved to 1-0 this season, while Northridge fell to 0-1. Logan travels to Cottonwood to face the Colts on August 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
