HYRUM – The valley rivalry lived up to the hype at Lynn R Miller field in Hyrum.
A back-and-forth battle between Logan and Mountain Crest resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Grizzlies, highlighted by a pair of goals from Demi Lopez in the second half.
“I was very pleased with the result,” Logan head coach Mitch Peterson said. “I knew we were ready. What that meant as a far as a result I didn’t know. … But I knew my team was ready.”
Lopez put the Grizzlies on the board just a minute into the second half, dribbling down the sideline to the top of the 18-yard-box and lofting a shot to the far post.
10 minutes later, Lopez struck again off of a deflected shot, cutting past a defender and sending a strike to the left side of the net.
“It was great, we were all nervous and came out all scared,” Lopez said. “We were down a little bit in the first half but we came back the first 10 minutes of the second and it just helped so much.”
Logan improved to 5-2-0 with the win, while Mountain Crest fell to 3-3-1.
The Grizzlies return to the pitch for a second valley showdown when they face Sky View on Thursday at 7 p.m.
