PLEASANT VIEW (AP) – Utah Highway Patrol officials say they had to shoot two cows that shut down lanes on Interstate 15 after they kept wandering into the roadway.
Officials say they closed off northbound lanes of the interstate near Pleasant View when the cattle moved in about 8:20 p.m. Monday.
Trooper Scott Prescott tells the Standard-Examiner the animals were apparently attracted to green grass that was growing in the median. A cable barrier kept them from crossing into southbound traffic.
Prescott says five officers from the Utah Highway Patrol and Weber County sheriff’s office tried to herd the cows away. He says officers had to put the animals down because they kept returning to the pavement.
The chase lasted about 45 minutes.
Prescott says it wasn’t immediately clear who owned the cattle.
