Picking a new Logan Council member will be an open process

LOGAN – Members of the Logan Municipal Council said good-bye to one of their own Tuesday night. They also expressed appreciation to outgoing councilmember Tom Jensen who resigned to accept a year-long appointment doing professional architectural education at a Catholic University in Jordan.

Now the remaining council is looking for a replacement for Jensen to serve until his term expires in two years. Current council chair Holly Daines said the process has started and there will be a special meeting on Tuesday, September 10 to interview those who have applied.

“We are required by the legislature. They passed new regulations in 2012 that said we do conduct the interviews,” Daines said following the Tuesday night council meeting. “We need to interview the candidates and we need to do that in a public meeting and we need to make the decision in a public meeting.

“Depending on the number of candidates, we will have a series of questions that we will ask those candidates. If we are able to come to a decision that night we will do so.”

Otherwise, she said, a second public meeting would be held to interview the rest of the candidates. Daines said the deadline for filing an application for the Council seat is Friday, September 6 at 5 p.m.

To date, those who have filed are Marilyn Griffin, Paul Rogers and Chris Laurence.
