School bus involved in accident on I-15

PERRY – A school bus carrying Mountain Crest High School cross country athletes was involved in an accident on I-15 Friday afternoon. According to Box Elder County Dispatch, the accident was called in at approximately 1:15 p.m.

The bus, a semi-truck and one other vehicle were involved in the accident near the southbound port-of-entry at mile post 358. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a NAPA semi tractor/ trailer slowed for traffic and was struck from behind by the school bus. There were minor injuries with some of the students complaining of head and neck pain, but no passengers were transported to the hospital. 

Eyewitness accounts from other drivers saw the students out of the bus, walking around shortly after the accident. A mother of one of the students aboard the bus says the cross country team was on its way to the Murray Invitational and was able to board another bus to continue south to their competition.

The far right lane of traffic was closed down for approximately an hour, temporarily slowing traffic.
