Keeton, Aggies fly by Air Force for first MWC win

The Utah State football team made a statement in its first ever game as a member of the Mountain West Conference: The Aggies are here to win a conference title.

Junior quarterback Chuckie Keeton threw for 360 yards and ran for 77 more as the Aggies raced past the Falcons in the conference opener for both teams.

It took Keeton and the Aggies just six plays to get on the board, marching 75 yards in two minutes for a 7-0 lead courtesy of a 30-yard touchdown pass from keeton to Travis Van Leeuwen.

An Air Force fumble on the Falcons first play from scrimmage led to another touchdown 90 seconds later and the Aggies led 14-0.

The Falcons remained within striking distance throughout the first half, but Keeton and company went to work in the third quarter. Three drives resulted in three touchdowns as USU opened up a 45-13 lead.

The victory was extra sweet for head coach Matt Wells, who picked up his first win as a head coach. Keegan Andersen, son of former USU head coach Gary Andersen, also had extra significance to the game after catching his first career touchdown.

Utah State moved atop the MWC standings with the win at 1-0, and are now 1-1 this season. The Aggies return to Romney Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 14 in their homecoming clash with in-state rival Weber State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
