Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness

<span class=”s1″>MILLVILLE – A Cache Valley event Saturday is an invitation for everyone to be involved in a day of fun while seeking a greater understanding of down syndrome.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>It is Saturday (Sept. 28) in Millville Park, 450 North 100 East, beginning with a 5K run at 10 a.m.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>Maria Leishman, Cache County Chapter President of the Utah Down Syndrome Foundation, said it is called “The Buddy Walk”.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>“It is just something fun for the community to come and be awesome buddies of these kids with down syndrome,” said Leishman.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>“Registration for the 5K starts at 9:30 followed by that run which is an Eagle Scout project. Then the Buddy Walk, an awareness walk around the park, starts at 11:00.”</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>Leishman said lunch will be served followed by carnival games with a bounce house and a slide, plus lots of face painting and games. Prizes have been donated for a raffle and silent auction.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>Registration for the event includes a t-shirt, lunch and all of the carnival activities.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>“This is our only fund raiser each year. It helps to support our schedule of activities we sponsor each month for the families of those with down syndrome.”</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>This year the organization has created a meal voucher for those times when a child with down syndrome is in the hospital for more than a couple of days to provide parents with meals during that time.</span>

<p class=”p2″><span class=”s1″>Leishman became involved in the organization when her down syndrome son, Kyler, was just a few months old. He is seven now.</span>
