Bruce ‘JoJo’ Natson named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State sophomore wide receiver/punt returner Bruce Natson has been named the Mountain West’s Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance at New Mexico last weekend it was announced by the league office Monday.

It is the first time in his career that Natson has earned conference player of the week accolades. Overall, it is the second time in as many weeks that USU has received a MW Player of the Week as senior cornerback Nevin Lawson earned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors last week.

Natson, a 5-7, 151-pounder from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Boyd Andersen HS) returned a career-high five punts for a career-best 102 yards in Utah State’s 45-10 Mountain West road win at New Mexico last weekend, including his first career touchdown on a 65-yard punt return just before the half to give USU a 31-3 halftime advantage. Natson, who also had punt returns of 15, 11 and nine yards against the Lobos, is the first Aggie to return a punt for a touchdown since 2007 when Kevin Robinson returned a 70-yard punt for a score against Nevada.

On the season, Natson ranks fourth in the Mountain West and 33rd in the nation with an aveage of 9.1 yards per punt return.

Utah State (4-4, 3-1 MW) has a bye this week and returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it hosts Hawai’i (0-6, 0-4 MW) in a Mountain West game at 2 p.m. (MT). The game will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network (Comcast Ch. 269/753HD, Dish Network Ch. 158, DirecTV Ch. 221).
