LOGAN – It looks like the Cache County Auditor’s office will be consolidated into the Cache County Clerk’s office. Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon says longtime county auditor Tamra Stones has been ill for some time but she has agreed to stay on for a few hours a week until the transition is made.
Lemon says a public hearing will be held at the November 12 meeting of the Cache County Council to see how the public feels about the consolidation.
“A number of the County Council members had gone and met with county commissioners from Utah County, Weber County, Davis County and Washington County, which all have combined Clerk/Auditors and they all got favorable reports about it. They were told it works very well. There’s a number of reasons they’re looking at it. Can we save money by doing that?”
The two offices were once consolidated in Cache County but Lemon says Stones prefers them to be separated. He says if the consolidation is done, his office will take over the accounting responsibilities while the auditing functions would go to the County Clerk’s office.
