Petersen defeats Watts for Logan City Mayor

There will be no third term for Logan Mayor Randy Watts. His challenger, Cache County Councilmember Craig Petersen, defeated Watts in a 53 percent to 45 percent vote in Tuesday’s municipal election.

Petersen was obviously pleased with the results.

“I feel excited. I feel happy that this is over and anxious to serve as Logan’s next mayor.”

Petersen said he feels it was a very clean campaign and said he worked very hard, then the voters came to a conclusion.

Watts congratulated Petersen on what he called a “good race” but also said it was “appaling that more people don’t get out to vote.”

Watts said serving as Logan’s mayor has been a wonderful experience.

“What I’m basically handing Craig is a healthy city, in every way, shape and form. It’s been a great team,” Watts said Tuesday evening after the final numbers were tallied. “I’ll tell you what, the executive group and all the people that I’ve worked with it’s kind of been like a match made in heaven.

“The stars align, balances are good, more CIP done through my administration than any other administration. I’ll move on with the rest of my life.”

Watts said there is still a lot of work to be done before he leaves office at the end of the year.
