A large crowd turned out Tuesday night comprised mostly of friends and family as Craig Petersen was sworn in as Logan City’s new mayor. In addition to Petersen, Gene Needham and Holly Daines were sworn in as councilmembers.
Among those in attendance Tuesday for the ceremony was Greg Merrill who was administered the oath of office earlier in the day as a Cache County Council member replacing Petersen. Merrill was Petersen’s campaign manager.
Petersen spoke briefly at the meeting, saying he is excited and honored to become the new mayor of Logan.
“I’m humbled but excited to be here,” Petersen said. “I have a deep and a very long-standing commitment to Logan City. I’m honored to have this opportunity.”
Petersen not only expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the new position, but he also addressed the Logan Municipal Council directly.
“I just want to make a particular statement that I look forward to working with the municipal council. I know each of you, some of you very, very well, but each of you at least moderately well,” he continued. “That’s not as a statement of flattery or of political expediency but I admire and respect you. I think this is an unusually competent city council.”
Petersen also said that he does not plan to make a lot of personnel changes at this time.
