The Bear River Bears and Tooele Buffaloes battled it out in Tooele with a grueling and very physical battle, but the Bears kept their calm and came out winners 69-58.
The seniors were the catalyst in the emotional contest, making big plays in the 2nd half and Landon Cornwall hit two key three pointers in the fourth to help seal the win. Bear River coach Chris Hunt said that changing the Bears’ defense to man-on-man was the key in the second half and motivated the Bears to playing hustle basketball.
“Give credit to Tooele, for shooting lights out in the first half,” Coach Hunt said in the postgame show. “We had to hang tough and come out in the second half and start playing better basketball.”
The Bears did just that, outscoring Tooele 19-9 in the third quarter. Then after playing a stalling-type offense for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, Cornwall hit two dagger three balls, and hustle defense increased the Bears’ winning streak to five games. They now will gear up for Grantsville next Friday night in Garland at 7 p.m.
