Options for Independence helping more than just the disabled

Programs to help the disabled at Options for Independence are not only for adults. Program manager Jennie Ostermiller says a new youth program provided 28 youth with leadership opportunities, independent living skills training, goal setting and social participation activities.

“Youth from the entire state, from all the different independent living centers who want to be leaders in the disability community,” Ostermiller explains, “we had them come together for three days.

“We had speakers, we had activities, rope courses, and we did service and it was really amazing.”

She says she would like to see double the number of youth participate this year. For more information, call Options for Independence at 753-5353.
