Neighbors put on fundraiser for barn lost to fire

Paradise barn fire Tuesday night, March 5, 2014.  The fire at 9800 South 380 East caused a reported $195,000 in damages.

PARADISE – A fire in early March completely destroyed a large barn in Paradise containing 200 ton of premium crop hay, straw, a baler and a trailer. Estimated value of the loss is $195,000, most of which was covered by insurance.

Because a significant portion was not covered by insurance a group of concerned neighbors has organized a dinner and barn dance fundraiser for Saturday, April 12, to help defray the loss suffered by Phil and Teresa Olsen of Paradise.

“In addition to the dinner and dance we will have a bake sale and there will be raffle items available,” said committee chair Margaret Gittens.

Music will be provided by three local bands, the McDonalds, the Sagwitch Basin Boys and Mile Marker 6.

The dance and dinner will be held at the Hulme family barn in Avon, 883 East 11000 South.

“They have offered us use of their large, enclosed dance barn. Your admission gets you bounce houses, live music and dinner.”

The event will start at 5 p.m. and continue past dark.

Cover charge is $5 a person.
