Criminal charges pending in vehicle rollover accident

LOGAN — Investigators are still trying to figure out how a vehicle rollover occurred in Providence Canyon, Thursday afternoon.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said deputies received a report of the single vehicle rollover at 4:30 p.m. When they arrived on the scene they located a 1990 Mazda pickup truck, about two-miles up the canyon. The truck appeared to have rolled and came to a rest about 12 feet from the roadway.

There was no one in the area but Peterson said deputies identified the vehicle’s owner as Mark Hedin of Nibley. The 40-year-old’s family confirmed it was likely that he had been driving the vehicle but they had not heard from him.

Peterson said 20-members of Cache County’s Search and Rescue Team were called in to try and locate Hedin. After approximately two-hours of searching, he showed up at his residence with a family member who had located him at the mouth of Providence Canyon. He had a bump on his head and was complaining of pain in his torso.

Peterson said search efforts were then called off and Hedin was transported to the Cache Valley Specialty Hospital.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the accident and charges may be filled when the investigation is completed.
