LOGAN – A 39-year-old Logan man facing 17 charges including rape of a child and object rape will remain in the Cache County Jail on a $80,000 bail.

Cody C. Smith was in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon for a bail hearing.

Smith’s attorney told Judge Brian Cannell that he had met with state attorneys prior to the hearing and they were dropping their request to increase the bail amount.

Judge Cannell ordered Smith’s bail to remain at $80,000 and set his next court appearance for April 29.

On April 2, Judge Cannell ruled there was enough evidence to charge Smith with 17 felony and misdemeanor counts including rape of a child and object rape.

Smith was arrested March 11 by officers with the Utah State University Police Department. They are investigating the case because Smith had worked for both the Logan City Police Department and the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
