Internationally acclaimed composer and conductor Bob Chilcott will be featured at the Cache Valley Choirfest on Saturday, April 26 starting at 4 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall of the Utah State University Chase Fine Arts Center.
The event is under the direction of Sylvia Munson, professor and Beverly Taylor Sorenson Endowed Chair of Elementary Arts Education. Munson is also artistic director and conductor of the Cache Children’s Choir which is the hosting choir.
Munson says the festival will include more than 350 youth from 11 Utah children’s choirs. Chilcott is a former singer in the King’s Singers and is one of the most sought-after composers today.
“So we’ve been waiting a long time (to get him),” Munson says. “Part of the thing is that we commissioned him to write a new work that could be premiered at the festival so these 10 and 12 year-olds from all these choirs throughout the state that are coming here for the festival will have the opportunity to be a part of a world premier with the composer conducting.”
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students age eight and older. Tickets are available by calling (435) 797-8022.
