Police release details about weekend homicide

James Kelly Pilgrim, 41, arrested April 26, 2014, in the shooting death of Chad Kirk Andrus.  Pilgrim is being charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

PRESTON, IDAHO — Police have released the names of the victim and suspect in a weekend shooting, being investigated as a homicide.

Preston City Police Chief Ken Geddes said 43-year-old Chad Kirk Andrus was killed early Saturday morning in an out-building at his residence, located at 801 West 800 North.

The suspect has also been identified as 41-year-old James Kelly Pilgrim who was arrested and is now being held in the Caribou County Jail without bail.

Geddes said Franklin County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call reporting the shooting at 2:09 a.m., Saturday. Preston City police, Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to the scene.

Andrus was reportedly shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Pilgrim was also injured and taken to Franklin County Medical Center. He was later booked into the Franklin County Jail, Saturday morning at 9:58 a.m.

Geddes said Pilgrim is being charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He is expected to make his initial appearance in Franklin County District court Monday afternoon by telephone.

An investigation into shooting is continuing by the Preston City Police Department, with the help of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
