LOGAN — A 38-year-old Mendon man is expected to plead guilty to charges of sexually abusing a child after waving his right to a preliminary hearing.
Brian B. Reed was in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. His attorney announced Reed was waving his preliminary hearing in exchange for a plea deal, allowing him to plead guilty to two of the five charges he’s facing.
In September 2013, Reed was charged with five counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. He was arrested November 26 and later released after posting a $25,000 bail.
During court on Tuesday, Reed’s attorney told Judge Kevin Allen that his client will plead guilty to two charges and the state will drop the remaining three. Each charge carries a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
Judge Allen ordered Reed to return to court on June 2, when he is expected to enter his guilty plea.
