Jesse Dunn is giving everyone a 1 minute head start for this weekend’s Wellsville Duathlon

WELLSVILLE – Registration is underway for an event this weekend that is taking the place of the old Cache Valley Biathlon.

The Wellsville Duathlon, Saturday morning at 8:30, is a run-bike-run race and is an opportunity for the event’s organizers to sponsor local athlete Jesse Dunn for future races.

“Jesse is an all-around great kid and standout athlete at Logan High who is getting back into racing after returning from a church mission,” said Race Director Ryan Piggott. “He recently competed in St. George at the Half-Ironman and of 3,000 contestants he was 52nd overall. That includes a field of 90 professionals.”

Dunn was also third in the Top of Utah Marathon racing with the Logan Race Club.

“We’re happy to have him involved in our event and to be able to support him in his future races.”

Dunn’s upcoming race schedule includes the IT World Triathlon Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Piggott said Saturday’s event begins with a two and a half mile run, followed by an 18-mile biking leg and finishing with another two and a half mile run.

“We’re hoping it is an event that will test those who are experienced in the sport but also get people out that haven’t done it before,” said Piggott.

He said there will be team and individual categories. The course starts in Wellsville at the town square with the first running leg out around the Wellsville Dam and back, then the bike course runs through Mendon almost to Cache Junction and returns through Wellsville, before repeating the final running leg around the dam and back.

Registration is now available at . Entry is $50 for individuals and $60 for a team.

Piggott said Dunn’s family will provide a $5 all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast ($20 per family). There will also be prize giveaways through a raffle.

“Jesse will give the entire field a one-minute head start and anybody who beats him will get a prize also.”
