LOGAN — Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said Search and Rescue crews were able to locate a pair of hikers, who got lost Monday night.
The brother and sister were hiking together when they got lost above Spring Hollow in Logan Canyon, US 89.
Peck said the two young adults were able to get cell phone coverage and call county dispatch, who then paged search and rescue crews.
They were found safely around 11:45 p.m. in the Red Ridge area.
Peck said the two were not dressed for the conditions and had only one bottle of water.
“This time of year in the valley floor it is wonderful weather,” said Peck. “It is in the 80’s and so people kind of assume that maybe it is the same weather up in the mountains but we still have snow up there.”
There are some new trails in the Spring Hollow area which may have caused the brother and sister to become disoriented.
Peck said they always advise everyone, going into the mountains, to be prepared.
“We always tell people dress for extreme conditions even though you don’t think there will be any,” said Peck. “Bring water, bring food for at least a two-to-three days and that way when something does happen, you will be able take care of yourself until rescue units can reach you.”
Peck said it has already been a busy year for Search and Rescue volunteers and it’s only June.
