Utah governor makes 2 judicial appointments

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert has announced appointments to fill two vacant district judgeships.

He appointed Brandon Maynard to replace retiring 1st District Judge Ben Hadfield and Roger Griffin to replace retiring 4th District Judge Steven Hansen.

The 1st District covers Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties, while the 4th District covers Juab, Millard, Utah and Wasatch counties.

Herbert’s appointees are subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.

The Deseret News reports Maynard has served as chief criminal deputy attorney in Box Elder County since 2007, while Griffin has been an attorney for Craig Swapp and Associates since 2005.

Hadfield’s retirement is effective in August, while Hansen’s retirement is effective July 1.
