Hundreds gather for free hot dogs and National Anthem competition

Nearly 400 people showed up to Fairview Park in Logan for an annual summer tradition sponsored by radio stations 94.5/98.3 VFX and 95.9 KLZX for Weenie Wednesday. The hot dogs, drinks and ice cream are free to members of the radio stations’ text clubs.

On the other side of the fence Wednesday, inside the Logan Aquatic Center, nine contestants performed in front of judges, family and curious onlookers in the first annual Anthem Idol competition. Judges of the competition include Laurie Hart, Jay Richards, Sarah Huff and Jeremy Baer.

Sponsored by Freedom Fire, Logan City and the Cache Valley Media Group, the competition to select who will sing the National Anthem on July 3rd at Freedom Fire in Romney Stadium started with 32 contestants. On Wednesday, that field had been narrowed to 10.

Those who performed were Kassie Winkler, Holly Bills, Jamie Yonker, The 4 Hims, Lonnie Litchfield, Amy Atkinson, The Accidentals, Maya Miller and Vanessa Hunter. Siera Peery was not able to perform that day and special arrangements were made with the judges.

The final round of Anthem Idol will take place on Wednesday, June 18 at 1 p.m. at the Logan Aquatic Center. The finalists who will perform are Kassie Winkler, Jamie Yonker, Maya Miller, Vanessa Hunter and Siera Peery.
