Finalists perform to become inaugural Anthem Idol

Five finalists performed their versions of the Star Spangled Banner in front of judges, family and friends on Wednesday, hoping to be selected as the inaugural Anthem Idol. The competition began with 33 contestants and by Wednesday that number had been narrowed down to five.

The contestants who performed were Vanessa Hunter, Siera Peery, Maya Miller, Jamie Yonker and Kassie Winkler. Each contestant was judged on tone, vocal quality, pitch, smoothness, style, lyrics and stage presence.

Contestants were judged by Sarah Huff, Jeremy Baer, Laurie Hart, Jay Richards and Jim Reese. All five contestants will have an opportunity to perform and be a part of Freedom Fire and the winner of Anthem Idol will be publicly revealed that night in Romney Stadium. The winner will have the option of performing the national anthem with the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop.

Tickets for Freedom Fire are available at the Logan Aquatic Center, the Logan Recreation Center, the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau and at the USU Spectrum ticket office. All seats are general admission.
