Mendon man sentenced to prison for child sex abuse

Brian Bartholomew Reed, 38, charged with five counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies.

LOGAN — A 39-year-old Mendon man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a child.

Brian B. Reed appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon.

Judge Kevin Allen sentenced Reed to two sentences of three-years-to-life in prison. The sentences will run consecutively.

In June, Reed pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, both first-degree felonies. He was originally facing five counts. He was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail, November 26.  He was later released after posting a $25,000 bail.

During Monday’s sentencing, State attorney Barbara Lachmar said the victim of this case described how Reed sexually abused her multiple times while she was placed in his care.

Lachmar told Allen the evidence of this case was very serious and that the court had also received a letter from a second victim describing how she was sexually abused by Reed when she was 9-years-old.

Allen said Reed’s actions were repulsive and extremely egregious.

Before being sentenced Reed told the court he was sorry for what he did.
