Transit district no longer pursuing sales tax increase

He was hoping this would be the year to let voters decide whether or not to support a small sales tax increase for bus transportation. But Todd Beutler, general manager of the Cache Valley Transit District, says it became clear that local leaders still have questions about the need, especially in a year when other entities are raising taxes.

“We feel that after the conversations with local leaders there really are more questions that need to be answered,” Beutler says, “and we want to take the time necessary to help answer those questions.

“It made sense at this point to go ahead and pull back, and reevaluate how we approach that with the legislators. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with them.”

Beutler says although there was no formal meeting, each member of the board of directors has been contacted and the board agreed to drop the transit ballot issue from consideration in November.
