Logan City police officer injured in ATV accident

LOGAN — Cache County Search and Rescue crews were called to Millville Canyon Friday afternoon, after Logan City Police Lt. Brad Franke was injured in an ATV rollover accident.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said the 45-year-old Franke was off-duty and riding with several friends in the canyon.  About three miles up the canyon his ATV struck a rock, causing it to rollover.

Franke was thrown from the ATV, which then rolled over him.  He suffered injuries to his ribs, arm, shoulder and lower leg.

Peck said crews were originally concerned that Franke might have internal injuries so a  Life Flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Search and Rescue members and paramedics were able to move Franke to an area where the helicopter was able to land. He was then transported to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.

Cache County Sheriff’s deputies restricted traffic up the canyon while crews assisted in the rescue.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said Franke is in stable condition.  He does have several cracked ribs but doctors don’t believe there were any internal injuries.
