Only about 10 percent of local insurance agents participate in NAIFA

Governor Gary Herbert has declared the month of September Life Insurance Awareness Month in Utah. In making the declaration, the governor encouraged residents to become more aware of their life insurance needs, seek professional advice and take actions necessary to prepare and secure their family’s financial future.

Brady Christensen is president-elect of Cache County’s NAIFA organization, which stands for National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. On KVNU’s Crosstalk program Tuesday, he said there are at least 300 local insurance agents yet only about 30 are involved with the organization.

He said NAIFA is to the insurance industry what the Bar is to lawyers and the Medical Association is to doctors.

“NAIFA is an organization that does a lot for our people,” said Christensen. “NAIFA provides advocacy that helps to keep our investments, our 401K’s, our IRA’s tax deferred.

“NAIFA is a big advocate and lobbyist to keep life insurance so the beneficiary proceeds are non-taxable.”

Christensen said NAIFA is the only organization serving and representing insurance and financial advisors regardless of the products they sell and service.
