Grading Governor Herbert

He was a Jon Huntsman fan but Utah State University political science professor Mike Lyons gives Governor Gary Herbert a B grade. He says the governor has surprised him with his political agility and he has moderated himself in several ways.

“He is, of course, benefiting from a very strong state economy and the financial reports for the upcoming year at this point are good,” Lyons explains, “so there will be some money to spread around.

“I wish someone in Utah state government would take much more seriously our public education system and massively infuse money into it.”

Lyons says he would really like to see the governor move in that direction. He says this was impossible four or five years ago during the recession but it’s becoming possible now. He does not see Herbert with that kind of boldness. Lyons says if Herbert decides to run for another term he expects him to win.
