Sub-for-Santa looking for families and sponsors

Sub-for-Santa workers are hoping the arrival of snow will be a reminder that to qualify for help for Christmas this year applications are due by December 8.

Last year, Sub-for-Santa helped provide Christmas for 864 children but Executive Director Susan Rasmussen says only 60 applications are in. She said you can pick them up at many places including libraries, the Cache Community Food Pantry, WIC, HEAT, and other government offices.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk program, Rasmussen said Sub-for-Santa needs sponsors.

“We ask that a sponsor provide $75 at the most,” Rasmussen said. “In the interview process we find out the child’s three main wants and three needs. Then we ask that the sponsor, with that $75, provide for at least one want and one need.

“They can provide more than that if they’re great shoppers! But we request at least one want and one need. As far as what kids have requested over the years, mainly it’s winter time clothing.”

Se said in order to qualify for help from Sub-for-Santa you have to meet certain income guidelines and not have had help for more than five years.
