Man withdraws guilty plea to sex abuse of a child

Larry Jokbata Billiam, 19, arrested Saturday for raping a 13-year-old girl, back in April.

LOGAN — A 19-year-old North Logan man has withdrawn his guilty plea to sexually abusing a child and instead accepted a plea deal to new charges.

Under conditions of the plea agreement, Larry Jokbata Billiam pleaded guilty in 1st District Court to forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony and unlawful sexual contact with a minor, a third-degree felony.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar told the court, Billiam was found at a local park in April, inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl. He was arrested and served 90-days in jail before being released.

Billiam’s defense attorney said the lesser charges will require his client to register as a sex offender for 10-years instead of life, the previous charge would have included. He is scheduled to be sentenced January 6.
