Residents from north end of Cache County encouraged to apply for open council seat

If you are a registered Republican living in Cache County’s North District you are invited to file for a seat on the Cache County Council. Current council member Craig Buttars is resigning his seat to become the new Cache County Exexutive and the new member will be taking his place.

Gina Worthen, Cache County Republican Party Secretary, said the precincts in that district are Amalga, Benson, Clarkston, Cornish, Cove, Lewiston 1 and 2, Newton, Trenton, Richmond 1 and 2 and Smithfield 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7. Smithfield 4 and 5 are not included.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk program Thursday, Worthen said anyone interested should notify party chair Danny Brownell by December 26.

”We will have a meeting the end of December, on the 30th of December,” Worthen explained, “in which we’ll have the precinct leadership from those districts that that seat serves, along with the county delegates from that same area. They will get together and they will choose a new councilmember.”

Worthen said the name will then be presented to the Cache County Council for appointment. This is an interim position which will be up for regular election in 2016.
