Utah again tops in nation for volunteer service

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report shows that Utah is once again tops in the nation for volunteer service.

It marks the ninth straight year Utah has led the list.

The report from the Corporation for National and Community Service, released this week, shows that 44.6 percent of Utah adults volunteered in 2013.

That’s a higher percentage than any other state and well above the national average of 25.4 percent.

Among metro areas, Salt Lake City ranks second with 35.1 percent of adults volunteering. The Minneapolis -St. Paul area leads all metro cities with 35.8 percent of residents volunteering.

The report is based on information from a monthly survey of 60,000 households done by the U.S. Census Bureau.
