Bruce Eugene Thompson

Bruce Eugene Thompson of Boulder passed away on Christmas morning at the age of 79. Bruce was born July 4, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Janis Nielsen Thompson, and by his parents Virginia Johnson Thaxton and Lemuel Hubert Thompson.

Bruce is survived by his children Keith, Charlie, Candace, Janette Thompson Purtell, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Sophie Thompson.

Bruce graduated from San Diego State with a degree in Physics, attended BYU, West Point, and was in the first class at the Air Force Academy.

He was an engineer at Ball Aerospace in Boulder for many years and then founded Mountain Optech, Inc.

He was an “ole’ cowboy” at heart and loved telling stories about growing up on “the ranch”.

Bruce was kind, generous, outgoing, fun, loving, had a great sense of humor and was an inspiration to many. He cherished his friends & family and will be missed dearly.

Services will be held this Friday, Jan. 2 at 2pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4655 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO 80305 with a reception to follow.

A second service and reception will be held in Utah on Monday Jan. 5, at noon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 115 S 100 E, Laketown, UT 84038.
