Helping improve Logan neighborhoods will be a priority for Petersen in 2015

As his first year in office comes to an end Logan Mayor Craig Petersen says he feels 2014 has been a great year both for himself and for the city as well. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Monday the mayor said a great deal has been accomplished with the help of fantastic employees.

He’ll be reporting on that on January 6th when he presents his first annual “State of the City Address.”

Petersen said the year 2015 does come with challenges and one is  trying to revitalize downtown Logan. He also wants to do more with neighborhoods.

“We have neighborhoods that are deteriorating,” Petersen said. “We have neighborhoods that have a very high proportion of rental units, of rental single family housing.

“We appreciate our renters but at some point when the portion of renters in a neighborhood becomes high, then the character of the neighborhood changes, particularly in terms of maintenance. I think we need to find a way to deal with that.”

He said one of the ways the city plans to deal with that is through better infrastructure: make sure the city has good sidewalks, lights and roads that are in good repair.
