LOGAN — Search and rescue teams along with EMS were called to the Tony Grove area to rescue an injured snowmobiler, Wednesday afternoon.

Cache County dispatch operators received a call at 3:30 p.m. saying a 46-year-old man went off a cliff while snowmobiling. The caller said the man was complaining of a back injury and was delusional.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Locke said David McKay of Logan was snowmobiling with family when he rode into a steep area, rolled his sled and tumbled down an embankment.  He reportedly lost consciousness temporarily.

Teams with the Cache County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue set up a command center near Tony Grove Lake to coordinate the rescue.

A medical helicopter was also dispatched and was able to land near the crash site.

Locke said other snowmobilers in the area were able to transport medical crews to where McKay was.  They were then able to move him back to the helicopter where he was flown to McKay Dee Hospital.
