He is often called the Budget Man because State Senator Lyle Hillyard, R-Logan, is chairman of the Senate’s Executive Appropriations Committee. Hillyard said the legislative session will soon be winding up so the budget work has started.

Hillyard told those attending the annual Cache Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner that the budget that is eventually passed won’t please everybody and nobody will get all they want. But he said it is a process of everyone working together and coming up with the best solution possible.

“Every legislator serves on an appropriations committee,” Hillyard explained. “Be you a Republican, be you a Democrat, be you in the House or the Senate we have eight subcommittees. Every legislator serves on one of those committees and has input.

“I take some pride in the fact this will be the 11th year that I’ve done the budget and it has always passed unanimously.”

He said at least everyone has a chance to be heard and they feel good even though they haven’t won every point.
